REQUIREMENT

BAM Nuttall were contracted by Hampshire County Council to construct the Stubbington Bypass with geotechnical work being sub contracted to their sister company BAM Ritchies.

Designer Campbell Reith identified high pore water pressure in the soil nailed slope and required a drainage solution installed to a distance of 10m through gravel layer into the clay beyond.

Commonly available driven band drains had proved not to be suitable due to the rigours of driving them through the aggressive ground, so BAM Ritchies contacted Anchor Systems (International) Ltd to provide a solution.

SOLUTION

Anchor Systems reviewed the design of our standard Anchor Drain product in conjunction with a series of site tests and greatly improved its resilience by the addition of a steel protective cover. A recommended installation method was also developed in conjunction with BAM Ritchies to maximise productivity rates.

Over 300 enhanced Anchor Drains were delivered in a short time frame to meet Bam Ritchies schedule.
